This is not the shot i expected from such a promising evening of high cirrus cloud, the sun sank into a promising orange glow.......and then went grey.

hands up all English photgraphers who recognise that dashed expectation...ahh well tomorrows another day.

This was shot during the 'promising orange glow' with the inevitable salvage tool a lee big stopper.

Id kept an eye on the glowing rocks as the sun set...the tide was pushing in so it was an oportunity to be taken...

The shot i'd gone for had waterfalls, flowers, beach, headland and sunset...as said tomorrows another day...

i don't know if i ever get the shot i'm planning. half the time i think i get so overwhelmed by the scene in front of me that i forget what brought me to there in the first place. i would say this is a great example of seizing the opportunity before you. the lighting definitely worked in your favor. i'm particularly struck by the flowing patterns formed by the moving water. the slight S curve that follows the path of the rocks really pulls your attention. the contrast between the soft misty water and the sharp lines of the stone is very appealing to me.

I love these kinds of lines of rocks...there are a few beaches like this in southern Portugal. But the combination of tide AND decent skies is a pretty hard one to get.
This is great Steve

yeah me too we are quite lucky in that there are a lot here, skies have been horrendous this year so far...however this last week has been superb, big heavy cummulous cloud and high winds...heaven...not for the wallet though...i spent three days last week travelling 130miles a night..it gets expensive but you have to strike whilst the irons hot.
glad you like it Andy thanks mate

Yes, I like this Steve. And yes I know that sense of disappointment well. Cloud banks are no fun....
Justin and I drove 2 hours yesterday (admittedly not having done the weather check thing) clear and cirrus in Southampton gradually hazier towards Dorset, greyer over Weymouth and then black with pissing rain and thunder and lightning.....We haven't had any proper rain for 6 or 8 weeks.......
