Description

Sorry about the unimaginative title....brains on holiday.

This was one of the last shots i took whilst spending the day shooting with Alex[link]

This is one of the many stone rows on Dartmoor it is the southern row of two at the site and measures 263m in length.

I wish i could tell you what it was built for but the truth is no one knows, many speculate many have theories.

Im sure it was built as a landing strip for an Alien master race to land there ufos....but i might e wrong :D

I would say, and who am I to know, that the stones are there to point to the position where the sun sets on a particular day of the year. Many of the archealogical sites in the Northern hemisphere tend to mark points in the calendar which were of significance for the civilisation involved. This could be marking the shortest day of the year for example. To remind people that the sun was going to return to a useful (in terms of growing crops and the like) position in the sky and make the days longer. Or it could have been as simple as a birthday etc.
Still Aliens are far more interesting and don't require any proof or sanity to back up..........

Great shot Stephen, I love the sky and the sun rays. The composition is strong and the format is well chosen.

Just one minor issue for me - the rocks and infact the ground entirely seem too dark. This could of course be my monitor as I have been having serious issues with calibration recently and have been fiddling around blindly with controls which I know nothing about!!
