im not sure now whether this kind of shot is just too passe....
for some subjects i think it works very well, trees and forests being an obvious choice...
This is an old wood on Exmoor National Park....

Good for you, stepping out on a limb. I think sometimes, you have to try new things, and while the entire concept may not work...you make still be able to take something positive and useful from the experiment. I think it would have been better to try in black and white, then the texture wouldn't have to compete for your eye, with the bright greens/yellows. Then maybe darken the some of the stumps so your eye can find and main focus points easier, instead of searching. And just one more thing, take the main stump/tree out of the center of the photo and put closer to the edge.
Seems to divide the photo too much for me.

I think this is just not blurred enough to look really abstract, yet too blurred to look good.
Reminds me a bit of a child's photo who's holding a camera for the first time to be honest ;)
